An Nspired Approach to Custom Product Graphic Designs

Your product may be beneficial to your customers. But that is not enough to sell your product in a competitive market.

You must do something extra to lure customers. While planning an effective marketing strategy is your priority, your product label is the first thing to remember. There are many reasons why product designs are essential for the steady growth of your business.

Good product graphic designs can help:

  • Your products stand out from competitors
  • Differentiating your product from competitors, which is crucial to creating a distinctive brand identity
  • Influence consumers' buying decisions while shopping
There are lots of products lined up on a shopping shelf.

If the design is attractive and unique, the label will instantly draw potential customers to your product. Even undecided customers will think of buying your product based on its notable label.

Many surveys have shown the importance of product labels from your customer's point of view. According to one study, Shopping Decisions Made In-Store, 70% of consumers decide on a product right in the store, showing that consumers like to be engaged by brands. The study goes on to say that 1 in 10 shoppers switches brands in-store.

This means the success of your brand depends a lot on the way you present your product on the store shelf.

Tips for Designing Product Labels

Remember these essential tips when creating a memorable product label. Let your Nspired Strategist help you with your product graphic designs.

1. READABILITY

A product label front generally holds information such as the product's name, the brand's logo, quantity units, etc. Include Lengthier details on the flip side, including instructions on using the product, ingredients, etc.

When creating a label design, make sure all text is legible. The font size should be such that people can easily read the label from a reasonable distance. Ideally, the text should be above 6 points font. For the other relevant information listed, use 10 points font and up.

To further improve the readability, the font color should contrast with the background color. But stay away from wild color combinations. Choose a font color with both value and intensity contrast. Consumer psychology states that bright color is a wiser choice as it gives a sense of confidence. The color shades should follow the brand's existing brand style.

2. EMPHASIZE WHITE SPACE

White space is the area that is left blank, the background color of the design. White space is a significant element in designing a product label as it creates visual distinction. It helps to separate the chunks of different information for customers to read the details easily.

White space gives a minimalist, sophisticated look to the design and denotes the calmness of the product. Notice that white space is the main element in creating baby products and cosmetic labels.

You can attract buyers toward powerful product labels having clear content and a simple logo design. It reflects that the product is user-friendly and communicates a sense of simplicity.

3. TYPOGRAPHIC PAIRING

Since a product label is usually small, create a visual juxtaposition by typographic pairing. Consumers can easily recognize the pieces of information with the help of contrast. Use the same font if there is a need for continuity of information.

To make the design more effective, use fonts that reflect the nature of the product. For example, on a product label for a hot sauce, use a font that reflects strength and endurance. Stay away from overly cursive and flowery fonts that decrease its readability.

Another thing to consider when picking a typeface is brand consistency. Consider your many marketing materials such as logos, brochures, business cards, etc. The label typeface should be the same as your logo design and other graphics.

4. ILLUSTRATE

When you need to speak about the product more visually, use illustration and graphic design elements. For example, a product label for jellies or fruit juice has different color combinations and illustrative images of fruit flavors.

5. MAINTAIN ORIGINALITY

Make sure that your label design looks unique and original. Research your competitors' label. An obsolete, dull, or copied design may lead to a legal dispute.

Leave off anything that is not related to the product. Barcodes may be an essential element in the design. They help to gain a sense of authenticity.

Provide the company contact information to encourage communication with buyers.

6. CONSIDER THE LABEL SIZE

The product size determines the size of the label. You may need a label on the front and back of the same product or just the front.

When the product requires multiple labels, the front label has just the logo and the brand name. The back label contains the rest of the information. However, consider one single “wrap-around” label. It is more cost-effective and gives a more appealing design panel, and helps build a brand identity.

7. FOCUS ON THE PRINT QUALITY

Use a professional, highly-rated, quality printer to ensure a great first impression. You should consider a slick gloss, matte surface, or coated paper. Many elements tie into your professional image.
